Method note

How this radar works

The Nanny-Delvin Water Radar is a daily, source-led catchment intelligence layer. It is designed to support practical Trust action, not to collect every possible water-related link.

Radar structure

Four operational lanes

Ireland Catchment Practice

Irish river, lake, estuary, lagoon, catchment, restoration, monitoring, citizen-science, and water-quality signals.

Waterbody Evidence and Alerts

Incidents, ecological signals, invasive species, fish kills, septic pressures, slurry/manure timing, rainfall-runoff issues, estuary and lagoon items, and practical waterbody intelligence.

Grants and Opportunities

Funding routes relevant to community water action, citizen science, biodiversity, catchment restoration, wetlands, education, and Trust partnership work.

Practical Research Papers and Reviews

Research is ranked Ireland-first, then comparable temperate systems, then transferable NbS and water-quality evidence where it helps action.

Ranking logic

How usefulness is estimated

The score is not a truth claim. It is a prioritisation aid. Items receive boosts for practical relevance, local relevance, Irish applicability, source trust, freshness, grant fit, research usefulness, and pressure categories.

Pressure categories watched

Nanny-Delvin local signals, River Nanny, River Delvin, East Meath, North Fingal, septic / domestic wastewater, manure / slurry timing, agricultural runoff, nutrients, sediment and hydromorphology, incident alerts, invasive species, Spartina and saltmarsh, birds and wetland ecology, river ecology, citizen science, NbS and restoration, funding, and policy / governance.

Known limitations

Google News RSS can miss items, source pages change structure, grant deadlines may require manual checking, and research relevance is inferred from metadata and abstracts. The radar should support human judgement, not replace it.

Operational files

Auditability

The radar writes daily JSON files so outputs can be checked, archived, and reused.
